What was until now just a rumour is official: Final Fantasy XIV is getting a mobile version. The confirmation didn't come from Square Enix but from China's regulator.
The approval
China's National Press and Publication Administration has approved 15 foreign games for release in the country, and Final Fantasy XIV Mobile is among them. With this batch, China has approved 76 imported games in 2024.
Who's making it
The project is a collaboration between Square Enix and Lightspeed, a Tencent-owned studio. No concrete details about the game are known yet. It will most likely be a standalone title, separate from the PC and console version, given the differences in hardware and controls.
Other approved games
The same list includes, among others:
- Dynasty Warriors 8 for mobile.
- A Rainbow Six game, probably also for mobile.
- Marvel Snap.
- Marvel Rivals.
- Mario Golf: Super Rush.
- Paper Mario: The Origami King.
There are no release dates or prices for Final Fantasy XIV Mobile yet.
